StoryCorps is a nationwide initiative to instruct and inspire citizens to record each other’s stories in high-quality audio. Participants receive a CD of their recorded interviews, while a copy goes to the Library of Congress, creating a national oral history archive. StoryCorps’ flagship booth was launched at Grand Central Terminal in October 2003, and a booth at Ground Zero was launched in 2004 to collect stories about 9/11. Since then, StoryCorps has launched two mobile booths travelling the country and created StoryCorps door-to-door to capture stories of those who cannot make it to a booth. For StoryCorps, Local Projects worked on the original interview concept, created the motion graphics loop running on the exterior of the booth, and created a suite of “Listening Stations” encouraging people to put their ears against the booths for sample stories.
