Showing the pulse and connection of passersby in the heart of New York City.
How could interactive artwork reflect the bright lights and pulsing energy of Times Square? We partnered with Bjarke Ingels Group to put a Valentine’s Day spin on this challenge.
BIG Architects, Flat Cut (Fabricators)
In the center of Times Square, we created a 10-foot sculptural display out of 400 acrylic tubes embedded with red LEDs that pulse and glow in the shape of a heart. Passers-by were invited to touch a sensor that beat in resonance with their heart. The more people that touched the sensor or one another, the faster the heart beat and the brighter it glowed.
